On 26 June, VTV9, a channel of Vietnam Television, featured the shift towards more sustainable consumption at GO! Hypermarkets, a member of Central Retail Vietnam.
The report highlighted a range of initiatives being introduced across the stores to help reduce single-use plastics. These include replacing polystyrene trays with bagasse and other bio-based alternatives, expanding the use of recycled packaging materials, and introducing a charge for biodegradable carrier bags. Together, these measures are encouraging shoppers to bring their own reusable bags or make use of complimentary cardboard boxes when packing their purchases.
GO! has also established collection points for used plastic bottles and aluminum cans, supporting recycling efforts and contributing to broader ambitions to reduce plastic waste and promote a circular economy.
Small changes to the shopping experience can help encourage more sustainable consumer habits. These initiatives reflect the wider efforts of the retail sector to work alongside the Government in reducing emissions, advancing greener retail practices, and supporting Vietnam’s long-term sustainable development goals.
